And Then a Pandemic Happened…

In early March I went to two different events where I was around a great number of people. One of these was a speech and book signing and the other was a smaller sized comics convention. By the time San Diego Comic Fest happened we were hearing more about COVID 19. It was March 5-8 and we were hearing more about this virus that was affecting many countries but other than hand sanitizer being available and some joking about not shaking hand or bumping elbows, there wasn’t much fear or care amongst us attendees. Most of us had no idea of what would be coming into our lives very soon. By March 19, we’d all be in a California government mandated lockdown.

Here I type on May 11 and all of our lives have changed forever. Things we took for granted before are gone and we don’t now when they will return. Whether it’s sports or live music concerts or conventions or even self-service soda fountains at restaurants or sitting down in a restaurant at all for that matter we don’t know when things will return to normal. I might not be until there is a vaccine for this virus. Meanwhile, personally, I’ve had two jobs put on hold indefinitely, have two others that I’m a candidate for, and I’ve become accustomed to the new routine. I miss my filmmaking friends and being able to go to the beach and parks and walk. Someday perhaps I’ll point back to this post and remember now it was during the lockdown. That day could not come soon enough.
